This year the Summer Reading Challenge Silly Squad is going digital due to Covid-19 and the ongoing social distancing measures in schools and public libraries.
The theme for the 2020 challenge is funny books, having a laugh and happiness! You may wish to look at the link summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/news/general/silly-squad-coming-soon which gives you some information about the challenge and the characters. The Reading Agency will be running the challenge from June to September.
They are planning to have a week of activity from Monday 1st June culminating with the launch of the digital challenge on Friday 5th June. It will be a virtual Let’s Get Silly programme which can be accessed via The Reading Agency Facebook page. This will include a programme of events from celebrities and guest authors/illustrators. For more information about what they are proposing please see readingagency.org.uk/news/media/first-ambassadors-announced-for-2020-summer-reading-challenge.html
In partnership with the Reading Agency libraries are being asked to deliver the Silly Squad digital reading challenge throughout the Summer using their e-lending platforms and their virtual services.
Oxfordshire Libraries are hoping, when libraries reopen, to promote the challenge both in the library, on social media and the libraries website. www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/residents/leisure-and-culture/libraries
Oxfordshire Libraries have also signed up for the libraries digital package.
Keep an eye out for updates from The Reading Agency on our Facebook page (Oxfordshire Libraries) or on Twitter @oxonlibraries
Plans are in hand for the core libraries, which includes Kidlington, to re-open in the next few weeks. The libraries will look very different with screens, a one way system and various other measures to protect both the staff and the visitors to enable us to open safely.
We look forward to welcoming you back.
