Oxford Airport is planning to construct a large new hangar to the north of the main group of airport buildings. It will be a building of 7,000 sqm – nearly 80,000 sq ft – and will include associated office space, car parking and an apron for parking aircraft. It seems unlikely that a development on this scale would be planned unless a new aviation business is coming to the airport, or an existing one is expanding its operations.
These proposals give rise to several questions:
- Who is the intended occupant of the new hangar?
- What are the implications in terms of numbers of additional movements?
- What types of aircraft will be making up the additional movements and what effect will these have on noise levels in Kidlington and the surrounding area?
- How many jobs, of what types, may be created by the development?
We are waiting to hear from Oxford Airport on these points. In the meantime, if any of our readers have information on this proposed hangar, we would be very interested to hear from them.
